Blade bearing exchange - Bolt management
A significant part of replacing wind turbine drive train components is ensuring high quality, efficient tightening of critical bolted connections.
EchoBolt was recently engaged by SSE Renewables during a pitch bearing replacement campaign to measure bolt preload in the outgoing blade connections to provide insight into bolt condition. On the reassembly, bolt preload measurement has been used to ensure high quality joint assembly eliminating the risk of maintenance induced failures.
EchoBolt have been able to respond quickly to mobilise to site during a short weather window to support our pitch bearing exchange campaign. Working effectively with the mechanical and lifting contractors EchoBolt has been able to gather a significant volume of data on the integrity of critical joints on the turbine without impacting programme.
